One of Xiao Dapeng’s

One day in September 1908, Xiao Dapeng was born in a rural private school teacher’s home. His father, Xiao Jinhua, was a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, and his mother was a virtuous housewife. They were overjoyed to have a son in their later years and named him Dapeng. They hoped that he would spread his wings like Dapeng and have a bright future. Whether it was the influence of his family education or Xiao Dapeng's own talent, he lived up to expectations. He loved studying since childhood and had excellent grades. In 1924, he was admitted to Changcun Middle School in Yudu County with excellent results. Xiao Dapeng's parents wholeheartedly hope that he will study hard and become successful in the future. At this time, Xiao Dapeng was holding a book in his hand, not thinking about studying and becoming an official, but thinking about how to change this unfair world. He not only extensively read revolutionary and progressive publications, but also took the initiative to approach the newly established Communist Party branch of Yudu County. He often exchanged views on Chinese society with Communists such as Qiu Ti, and actively participated in the student affairs under the leadership of the party. The movement ruthlessly exposed the true face of the wealthy gentry in Yudu County who took advantage of the contradictions between Changcun Middle School, Changcun Primary School, Yushui Middle School and Yuyang Primary School, and used the schools as a place to cultivate their own power. In order to eliminate the gap between the two groups of students, under the leadership of the party, Xiao Dapeng, together with Li Jun, Zhang Wenhuan, Gao Keqin and other progressive students from Yushui Middle School and Yuyang Elementary School, exposed the machinations of the wealthy gentry and landlords and publicized the principle of unity against the enemy. . They also invited Communist Party members to give speeches in schools, recommend revolutionary books and periodicals to students, and spread revolutionary ideas. At the same time, they organized students from all schools to jointly take to the streets to perform street speeches, perform plays, draw cartoons, and write slogans, mobilizing workers and peasants to unite to overthrow the The warlords and the overthrow of corrupt officials made the student movement in the county develop vigorously. In early December 1926, Xiao Dapeng, Li Jun, Huang Jianfeng and other classmates gloriously joined the Communist Party of China, and he himself was elected as the chairman of the Yudu County Student Federation.

In January 1927, with the rapid development of the great revolutionary situation, the mass movement in Yudu County also developed vigorously. In order to strengthen the revolutionary power, the Central Branch of the Yudu County Party Committee of the Communist Party of China selected Xiao Dapeng and Li Jun , Huang Jianfeng and Chen Hao went to Wuchang Central Agricultural Lecture Institute to study. Half a year later, they returned to their hometowns with Mao Zedong's earnest teachings, ready to lead the masses in a big fight. But who would have known that at this time Chiang Kai-shek had torn off the hypocritical revolutionary veil, openly betrayed the revolution, and sent the "Purge Party Army" to station in southern Jiangxi. The entire southern Gansu had fallen into a white terror. When Xiao Dapeng returned to Yudu and passed through Ningdu County, he was detained by the Ningdu County authorities. When the news came, Xiao Dapeng's father was so anxious that he hurriedly found his student, Lan Bingrong, a powerful man from Zishan Township in Yudu, and went to Ningdu to release him on bail, so that Xiao Dapeng was able to return home safely.

Xiao Dapeng encountered danger on the way, shattering his parents' dream of having a successful son. So when Xiao Dapeng entered the house, her timid mother was afraid that her precious only son would go out to "get into trouble" again, so she immediately locked him in the room and guarded the door day and night, earnestly persuading her son to take the right path. However, iron locks can lock Xiao Dapeng's people, but they cannot lock his heart that longs for revolution. After six months of study, he had many plans for the peasant movement in his hometown, but he was like a bird in a cage in his room. Even though he had all kinds of skills, it was of no avail. In desperation, he suddenly discovered that the wooden fence of a window was not very strong. That night, he silently recited in his heart that "since ancient times, loyalty and filial piety cannot have both ends." Taking advantage of the silence of the night, he pushed open the wooden fence, said goodbye to his elderly parents with tears, and rejoined the torrent of revolution.
