Spring Festival to eat dumplings
Eating jiaozi during the Spring Festival is a major custom in northern China. Jiaozi is a great creation of China people. Originally called "wonton", "jiaozi" and "silver ingot". This kind of food was mentioned in Guangya written by Zhang Yi of the Three Kingdoms. Yan Zhitui of the Northern Qi Dynasty put it more specifically: "Today's wonton is crescent-shaped and is a universal food." This outlines the shape of jiaozi, which is similar to a half moon. It can be seen that China has been eating jiaozi for 1600 years.
According to legend, in the era when Pangu opened the heavens and the earth, Nu Wa refined five-color stones to fill the sky and made many loess people by kneading the earth. She struggled with the cold and kept making people, but in winter, it was freezing, and the ears of loess people were always frozen off. In order to fix the ear, every time Nu Wa is a loess person, she puts a small eye on her ear, ties her ear with one end of a thin thread, and puts the other end of the thread in her mouth, so that she can't bite off her ear. In this way, the loess people's ears are fixed. Later, the story of losing the ear and biting the thread turned into eating jiaozi. Because the winter solstice is the coldest day of the year, people always wrap jiaozi on this day, so that the loess people made by Nuwa can bite their ears with thread without being frozen. With the passage of time, people not only eat jiaozi in the winter solstice, but also eat jiaozi in the New Year, which has gradually evolved into a custom. Eating jiaozi and jiaozi on the first day of Lunar New Year's Eve is more common in China than eating glutinous rice balls and jiaozi. Jiaozi in the New Year has multiple meanings. First of all, jiaozi uses a lot of meat and oil, and is rich in nutrition, which means prolonging life. Secondly, jiaozi is like an ingot, which is a symbol of rolling financial resources. Fundamentally speaking, in ancient times, jiaozi was called "flat food, prison pill, jiaozi bait". Its style comes from wonton, and some places also eat wonton in the New Year, but jiaozi is bigger than wonton. Jiaozi is the alternation of the old and the new, which means welcoming auspiciousness and accepting blessings. Jiaozi is necessary for offering sacrifices to gods and ancestors.
Setting off firecrackers
In order to bless tomorrow and drive away the plague, setting off firecrackers on the occasion of the New Year has become a major event for people to send the old and welcome the new from generation to generation. Cao Xueqin's description of firecrackers in A Dream of Red Mansions is: "It can completely destroy the devil. As a bunch of silk, it is thunder, which scares people when it shakes. Looking back, it has turned to dust. " Today, people set off firecrackers, but they have no intention of exorcising ghosts. They all set off firecrackers to celebrate festivals, cheer up their spirits and add a happy atmosphere. Firecrackers are also varied with the development of modern science and technology, such as single ring, double ring, ancient philosophers firecrackers and so on; The names are becoming more and more poetic, such as flying snow to welcome the spring, fairy scattering flowers, white snow and red plum, golden monkey flying and so on. Every New Year's Eve and the arrival of the Spring Festival at 0: 00, the Chinese land and Chinese people all over the world set off firecrackers together, with a hundred flowers blooming and a thousand guns ringing. It was a sleepless night, and thousands of families celebrated the reunion with joy and became a unique landscape of the Chinese nation.
Year of ancestor worship and youth league
Sacrificing ancestors is to pay homage to ancestors before the New Year's Eve. When drinking water, you can't forget your late ancestors during the New Year. The ancestor worship ceremony was very grand, with three sacrificial gifts, namely a pig's head, a pig's tail (meaning pig's head), a rooster, a sheep's head or a rabbit, plus a wine sacrifice; Modern sacrifices are generally fruits, flowers and wine. Then, parents will lead their children and grandchildren to sacrifice together, bow down or salute in front of their ancestors' spirits, stop drinking, burn incense and turn money into money, and pray for their ancestors to bless their children and grandchildren with happiness and good luck. The form of ancestor worship may vary according to different religious beliefs, but the significance of commemorating ancestors is the same. In the evening, the whole family get together for a reunion dinner. I also want to go home for New Year's Eve dinner, which is a reunion knot that the Chinese nation can't give up. In ancient times, some prison officials were reunited with their families for the New Year, which showed the importance of "reunion dinner" to China and others.
