Hongmen Banquet is an excerpt from the great work Historical Records, and it is an extremely wonderful fragment in Xiang Yu's biography. Mr. Lu Xun once spoke highly of Historical Records as "a historian's swan song, leaving Sao without rhyme". Indeed, Sima Qian is not only a great historian, but also a great writer and language master. He is good at portraying characters in fierce contradictions and struggles. In this paper, the plot is unfolded in the contradiction between whether Xiang Yu attacks and whether Liu Bang can escape safely. Through vivid dialogue description, wonderful action description and rendering of tense and dangerous atmosphere, readers can be immersed in the scene and fully feel the throbbing of historical pulse. Secondly, the author uses the method of contrast to make the characters' personalities more distinct. When we entered the Hongmen Banquet, we not only got to know Liu Bang, the overlord of the Western Chu Dynasty, and Han Gaozu, Wei Jiahai, but also wrote counselors Fan Zeng and Sean, warriors Xiang Zhuang and Fan Kuai, and spies Xiang Bo and Cao, who had distinct personalities and brought out the best in each other. It can be said that in Sima Qian's works, historical figures are vivid and lifelike. How can such a fierce political struggle, such a fascinating plot setting and the unparalleled skill of the screenwriter not attract students?
