Jiujiang District is a municipal district of Wuhu City, Anhui Province. It was established in 1990 and was formed by the merger of the original Yuxikou District, Sibunshan District and Suburban District. It continues to use the ancient name of Wuhu "Jiuzi", It is named after the meaning of "Yangtze River". [1]

In February 1990, the original suburbs of Wuhu City, Sibunshan District, and Yuxikou District were abolished and Jiujiang District was established. [7]

In 1996, Jiujiang District governed 2 streets, 2 towns and 1 township: Sibunshan Street, Yuxikou Street, Wanli Town, Daqiao Town, and Guandou Township. The district government is located on Jiuhuashan Road.

In 1997, Jiujiang District abolished Guandou Township and established Guandou Town, with the town people's government stationed in Guandou.

In 2003, Jiujiang District was located in the northeast of Wuhu City. It borders Wuhu County to the east, Wuwei County of this city to the west, Jinghu and Xinwu Districts to the south, and Dangtu County and He County of Ma'anshan City to the northeast and northwest respectively. It has jurisdiction over 2 subdistricts, Sibunshan and Yuxikou, and 3 towns, Daqiao, Wanli and Guandou, with 20 communities and 31 villages. The district government is located at the intersection of Jiuhua North Road and Tianmenshan East Road.

In 2004, the "Approval on Approving the Incorporation of Qingshui Town in Wuhu County into the Urban Area" (Mindi Zi [2004] No. 49): Qingshui Town in Wuhu County was included in Jiujiang District of Wuhu City. Qingshui Town was abolished and divided into four subdistricts: Qingshui, Jingshan, Dazha and Zhangzhen. At the end of 2004, Jiujiang District governed 6 streets and 3 towns.

On September 13, 2005, the State Council approved (Guohan [2005] No. 77) to adjust some administrative divisions of Wuhu City: Jingshan Street in Jiujiang District and Guangfu and Liantang 2 in Wanli Town This community is placed under the jurisdiction of Jinghu District. The original Jiujiang District had an area of ??153 square kilometers and a population of 164,300. After the adjustment, Qingshui Town of Wuhu County (excluding the original Jingshan Town area) was included in the adjusted Jiujiang District, so the area increased to 232 square kilometers and the population increased to 232 square kilometers. 234,200, and the number of streets has been reduced from 5 to 8.

In October 2007, 11 villages in Qingshui Street were included in the Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the Wanchun Street Office was established.

On August 22, 2011, the State Council approved that Shenxiang Town in He County be placed under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang District of Wuhu City. So far, Jiujiang District has jurisdiction over 7 streets and 1 town.

On March 28, 2013, the State Council approved Erba Town and Tanggou Town in Wuwei County to be placed under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang District. [7]

On April 1, 2014, the State Council approved the placement of Baimao Town in Wuwei County under the jurisdiction of Jiujiang District.

Jiujiang District is located in the north of Wuhu City, spanning both sides of the Yangtze River. The central geographical coordinates are 118 degrees 23 minutes east longitude and 31 degrees 22 minutes north latitude.
