Jingdezhen Ceramic University is the only multidisciplinary university named after ceramics in China. It is one of the first batch of 3 1 independent undergraduate art colleges in China, and it is also one of 94 colleges and universities that are qualified to recruit international students with China government scholarships.

It is a university supported by the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions, an excellent engineer education and training program of the Ministry of Education, a demonstration university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education of the Ministry of Education, a national university with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, the first batch of pilot universities for transformation and development, and a first-class discipline construction university in Jiangxi Province.

The school's predecessor was the China Ceramic School founded by China modern industrialist and educator Zhang Jian in 19 10. 19 12 was renamed as Jiangxi lirao ceramic school, 19 15 was renamed as Jiangxi second-class industrial school, and a branch school was established in Jingdezhen the following year. 1934 moved to Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, and was named Jiujiang Ceramic Vocational School in Jiangxi Province.

1948 was upgraded to Jiangxi Ceramic Institute. 1952 national colleges and universities were adjusted and ceramic institutes were abolished. At the same time, Jingdezhen Ceramic Experimental Research Institute (now China Institute of Light Industry Ceramics) was established on the basis of the original school site, equipment and some professional teachers. Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute was founded in 1958. It was closed during the Cultural Revolution and resumed in 1975 with the approval of the State Council. 1999 China institute of light industry ceramics was merged into this school. 20 16 was renamed Jingdezhen Ceramic University.
