What does militia mean?

The militia is a mass armed organization led by the China Production Party.

Militia system

The Military Service Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) stipulates that townships, nationality townships, towns, enterprises and institutions shall establish militia organizations, and all male citizens who have reached the age of 18-35 and meet the requirements for military service, except those who have conquered active service, shall be incorporated into militia organizations for reserve service.

Militiamen are divided into backbone militia and ordinary militia. Soldiers who have retired from active service under the age of 28 and those who have received military training are incorporated into backbone militia organizations. The remaining 18-35-year-old male citizens are incorporated into ordinary militia organizations, while the female militia are only incorporated into the backbone militia, and the number is controlled within an appropriate proportion.

In units with special circumstances in land and sea frontiers, ethnic minority areas and cities, the age of the backbone militia can be appropriately relaxed, and the militia must be people with good physical fitness and political reliability.
