The Affinity between Sha Fei and Lu Xun

1950 On March 4th, photographer Sha Fei took away the only thing when he died in Shijiazhuang, which was more than a dozen last photos of Lu Xun and the negatives he took at the funeral in June 1936+00. "Be a writer like Lu Xun"

Sha Fei, 19 12 was born in Guangzhou on May 5th. His original name was Situchuan, and his ancestral home was Kaiping, Guangdong. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Guangzhou. After graduating from high school, he was admitted to Guangdong Broadcasting School and Guangzhou Yucai English School. He likes literature and reads Lu Xun's novels and Guo Moruo's poems.

Sha Fei1graduated from Radio School in 926, 14 years old. On the eve of the Northern Expedition, there was an anti-imperialist patriotic upsurge in Guangzhou. Sha Fei was deeply influenced as a teenager. He has patriotic, anti-imperialist and anti-feudal democratic thoughts and a sense of social responsibility. He resolutely joined the army and served as a telegraph operator in the Northern Expedition. He went to Shanghai, Ningbo, Jinan, Beijing and other places with the army. After the victory of the Northern Expedition, he was stationed in Wuzhou Military Radio Station in Guangxi for three years. Five years of military service has tempered his physique, tempered his will and broadened his horizons.

1at the beginning of 932, 20-year-old Sha Fei worked as a special operator at Shantou Radio Station with a monthly salary of 150 yuan. He has a stable job and a high income. He likes reading literary works in his spare time. He has read all the books of Lu Xun that he can buy. The more he reads, the deeper he understands society and life. He is active and keen, and a romantic idealist.

He knew and fell in love with his radio colleague Wang Hui. He told her that I want to be a writer like Lu Xun in the future, and I also want to speak out against unfair and unreasonable society; I like the Hungarian poet Petfi Sándor's "Life is precious, but love is more expensive. If it is freedom, you can lose both. It was Lu Xun who first introduced petofi to China. Sha Fei, his wife and friends are all concerned about the fate of the country and the nation. They hate foreign powers bullying China and Japanese occupation of northeast China. His friends, Li Hua and Zhang Wang, like woodcut. They had contacts with Mr. Lu Xun, who also studied with him.

The camera bought on honeymoon trip made Sha Fei interested in photography, and he studied hard. When his eyes turned to the bottom of society, he was moved by the sufferings of the poor and began to take humanitarian photos. He photographed rickshaws struggling with hunger, displaced victims, blind people crying for help, scrawny street children and tired dockers.

1June, 935, Sha Fei joined the Shanghai Black and White Film Society under the pseudonym Situhuai.

1936 at the beginning, Sha Fei took home a foreign pictorial to show his wife. There are several photos about Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who was killed by a Serbian youth with a pistol when he visited Sarajevo in June 19 14. This incident was the fuse of the First World War. Sha Fei told his wife excitedly that there was a photographer whose camera was always on and ready to shoot, and he took this historical scene. I want to be a photojournalist and record history with my camera. When he said this, his emotions boiled and his eyes shone with strange light.

This photo changed Sha Fei's life, and he decided to take photography as his lifelong career.

"If I don't take it seriously, I will regret it all my life and lose to history."

Sha Fei left Shantou on September 1936 and got up the courage to go to Shanghai. From then on, he began a turbulent career, recording important moments in China's modern history with a camera.

Admitted to the Western Painting Department of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. When he found Huang Xinbo with a letter from his good friend Li Hua, he got in touch with the left-wing woodcut school in Shanghai.

He keeps close contact with Si Tuleideng Joe, a painter who likes photography, Hui Min Stuart, a film artist, and Si Tuleideng Bo, a dentist. In Beijing from 65438 to 0926, Lu Xun bought two paintings by Si Tuleideng Joe. In Shanghai, they also have contact. 1936101On 8th October, Sha Fei met and filmed Mr. Lu Xun at the 2nd National Woodcut Exhibition of Shanghai Baxianqiao YMCA. 10128 Sha Fei's article "Mr. Lu Xun in the National Woodcut Exhibition"-Shanghai News: He first mentioned the government's monitoring of the woodcut exhibition at that time: "But soon after the opening, two experts came to discuss various difficulties. The next day, two more ronins came and talked for a long time in the venue, which made the air under the stage extremely tense. " ..... I am very happy to mention the guests who supported me, including Lu Digen's wife Yuko Ikeda and Meng He. Of course, what delighted him most was Lu Xun's visit: "... on the last day-10.8,12.30, I went to a small restaurant and rushed back to the meeting place after dinner, only to find that Mr. Lu Xun had arrived. He hasn't recovered this summer, and he is quite thin, but he is very excited and happy to criticize the quality of his works. He is like a mother. Young woodcut writers surrounded him and listened to him carefully. I was so happy that I secretly took a photo. Soon, the female reporter who came yesterday came with two Americans to choose paintings. She already knew Lu Xun, shook hands cordially as soon as they met, and then sat down to talk. At this time, I was in a hurry again. I stood on their opposite side and stole this scene again, because it was a rare opportunity. Mr. Lu Xun lingered for a long time before leaving, giving people a very close impression. "

Sha Fei developed and enlarged it himself immediately after filming. Seeing the photos, he was very satisfied. He sent his photos to Mr. Lu Xun and wrote two on the back. A picture reads: "What happened when Mr. Lu Xun talked with young woodcut artists at the second national woodcut exhibition. Photo by Sha Fei. " Another picture reads: "(Mr. Lu Xun) 10 8 talked with young woodcut artists in the second national woodcut mobile exhibition in Shanghai." Photo by Sha Fei. The copyright belongs to the author. Please send the manuscript fee to Sha Fei, No.54 Yi 'an Square, Pushi Road, Shanghai. "More than 60 years later, Zhou Haiying found the words on the back of the photo, remake it himself and gave it to the author.

Sha Fei also sent a photo of the Austrian female journalist Wei Lushi and Lu Xun.

In 2003, I interviewed Liu Pingruo (pen name Bai Cao) in Nanjing. He is the only person alive in the photo of "Lu Xun and the Woodcutter" taken by Sha Fei. The old man said, "I didn't know Sha Fei at that time, I didn't know other woodcut artists present, and I didn't know anyone was taking pictures. After Lu Xun died, I saw photos in the newspaper. Later, Sha Fei sent me four photos. " In the album commemorating the 40th anniversary of Lu Xun's death, next to the last photos of Lu Xun, Liu Pingruo personally marked "Sha Fei's Secret Photos".

Mr. Yin Ji of People's Daily recalled that he met Fu Lin in Shangrao concentration camp at 1940. Fu Lin was killed until 1942, and he kept holding a photo of himself and Lu Xun and other woodcut artists taken by Sha Fei.

Wu Haiyan, the daughter of Wu Bo (pen name Bai Wei), wrote to the author on 1996: "The memory of history comes from that vivid photo of my father and Mr. Lu Xun. This photo of Zhang Zhengui has been with our family for half a century. Even when my father was put in the' cowshed' and the whole family was swept out of the house, it has been preserved intact. " In 2003, at Wu Haiyan's home, I saw two photos that Sha Fei gave to his father more than 60 years ago. One of them has never been seen before, and it is said that there is a negative film, but it is a pity that it has been lost.

The photos of Lu Xun in the second national woodcut exhibition depict his majestic temperament of "looking at thousands of fingers coldly and bowing down as a willing ox", which has become an eternal portrait of Lu Xun in people's hearts. This is the first set of news photos taken by Sha Fei. He did it! This set of photos laid the foundation for his future career. He knew that his decision to choose photography as his lifelong career was correct.

Sha Fei's comrade-in-arms, Shi Zeng, recalled: "I took photos of Lu Xun's conversation with young woodcut artists, first photographed the conversation, and then took close-ups of Mr. Lu Xun from all angles. According to my feelings, my husband's demeanor and concern for young people are all expressed through photography. As a news photo, the first photo is enough, but this opportunity is rare. After I took the first picture, I didn't miss this precious historical moment. I continued to observe carefully and took a close-up of Lu Xun. This is the last time Mr. Wang took part in activities when he was ill. If I don't take it so seriously, I will regret it all my life and lose to history. " While Sha Fei was immersed in the excitement of taking pictures of Mr. Lu Xun, he was shocked when he learned that Mr. Lu Xun had just died in the early hours of 1936+00+09. He immediately put on his camera and went straight to Mr. Lu Xun's apartment in the new village of the mainland. He stood silently in front of Mr. Wang's body, made three deep bows, then gently turned on the camera and pressed the shutter several times.

200 1, the author visited Mr. Li Qun in Taiyuan. He recalled: "I met Sha Fei in the activities of Shanghai fine arts printmaking in 1930s, but I didn't know him very well. I have been engaged in woodcut exhibitions, and it was at that time that I met Sha Fei. He participated in the exhibition from the beginning and we were all together. He is very active in a dark suit and tie. 6543810.8, I didn't attend because I wrote a slogan for esperanto association. When I returned to the exhibition, Xinbo told me that Mr. Lu Xun had just left. When we talked with Mr. Lu, the Stuart brothers took pictures of us. This photo was seen shortly after Lu Xun's death. Sha Fei took pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Lu Digen and us. Maybe they suggested taking pictures together. After Lu Xun's death, Ikeda took me and Bai Cao, and we walked first. I painted four portraits, and I went to Sha Fei when I was with Bai Cao. "

In Lu Xun's mourning hall, there are two portraits: the big photo was taken by American journalist edgar snow in May 1933, and the small photo was taken by Sha Fei before Lu Xun's death 1 1 day. Shafei met Cao Ming, a female writer who specially registered wreaths in front of the mourning hall. Both of them are from Guangzhou and admire Mr. Lu Xun. On the day when they bid farewell to Lu Xun, they established friendship.

A page in Lu Xun's funeral document "A Gift to Teng Qing" preserved in Shanghai Lu Xun Memorial Hall reads: "1 19 Two photos taken by Sha Fei". This is his sacrifice to Mr. Sha Fei. He recorded the whole process of Lu Xun's funeral with a camera.

Sha Fei wants to publish photos of Lu Xun and give himself a pen name. He loves the motherland and yearns for freedom, hoping to fly freely in the sky of the motherland like a small grain of sand. Yes, it is Sha Fei!

Sha Fei once told Si Tuleideng Joe that I heard at Mr. Lu Xun's funeral that Mr. Lu was killed by a Japanese doctor who treated him; Joe has heard about it, and he also told his wife. Lu Xun was killed by a Japanese doctor, which became a shadow that Sha Fei could never erase.

Sha Fei bought an anthology of Kaiser Colwitz prints edited by Lu Xun himself. He likes the 20th picture "Bread" best. Later, he took the painting to the front line of war-torn North China and hung it in his room. Sha Fei went to the National Memorial Cemetery to say goodbye to her husband.
