What is food adi?

ADI of food is the daily allowable intake.

refers to the daily intake of a chemical substance (food additives, pesticides, etc.) by humans or animals, which has no known adverse effects on health. It is expressed in milligrams equivalent to human or animal kilograms, and the unit is generally mg/kg body weight. At this dose, the ADI value for life intake is the allowable milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day. The Joint Committee of Food Additives Experts (JECFA) under FAO/WHO of the United Nations puts forward the report on the toxicity of food additives used in various countries every year, which is discussed by CCFA at the annual meeting of the United Nations, and the ADI of a certain food additive is evaluated, modified or revoked, which has been accepted by all countries. The ADI value is the maximum unused dose (MNL) obtained from the long-term toxicity test on small animals (rats, mice, etc.), and 1/1-1/5 of it is taken as the ADI value. According to the ADI value, countries have set the maximum allowable dosage in food, which should be guaranteed in terms of food safety. Chemicals will not cause any measurable harm to their health. The higher the ADI value, the lower the toxicity of the chemical.

ADI=NOEL (maximum no-effect dose) /SF (safety factor)

SF is generally 1,2.

According to ADI, calculate the safe additive dose in each food to ensure that the total amount of substances entering the human body with food is lower than ADI.

the maximum dosage of food additives in food is generally calculated according to the Danish Budget Law (DBM) recommended by the FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). This method has been recognized and adopted by all countries in the world, that is,

the maximum dosage of food additives = 4× ADI

LD5 is the second commonly used index to judge the safety of food additives, and it is also the same as any food additive. It generally indicates the acute toxicity of food additives.
