Understanding the goal of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The overall goal of the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” puts forward the requirements for increasing low-carbon levels and effectively controlling total carbon emissions.

This is the first time that total carbon emission control has been mentioned in the five-year plan. During this period, my country has made remarkable achievements in response to climate change and green and low-carbon development.

As of the end of 2019, my country’s carbon intensity has been reduced by approximately 48.1% compared with 2005, and non-fossil energy accounts for 15.3% of primary energy consumption. China has completed the 2020 goal of my country’s external commitments ahead of schedule and is in the process of fully implementing national independence. Contribution and efforts to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals have laid a solid foundation.
