The mountain in Songjiang is near Sijing, called Sheshan, which is about 15 km from Songjiang Prefecture to Sijing.

The ancient town of Sijing is named after the intersection of four water systems: Tongbojing, Waibojing, Dongjing and Zhangjing. During the Northern Song Dynasty, a "Huibo Village" was formed in Tongbotang. In the mid-Yuan Dynasty, with the development of economy, it was expanded into a market town, named "Sijingli", and the water market pattern of Sijing Town was basically formed during this period.

In the Ming Dynasty, Sijing, as a grain distribution center and aquatic products trading center, became an important market town in Songjiang Prefecture. In other words, the materials moved from Songjiang Prefecture to Sijing Ancient Town.

At that time, there were many shops and houses in Sijing ancient town, and Buddhist temples were everywhere. From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, Sijing ancient town further developed and became a well-known material distribution center.

Interestingly, the Catholic church was built in Sheshan, because there are many Taoist temples and Buddhist temples in Sijing, or because they think that the mountain is not high and the gods are spiritual.

Sijing is a gathering place of ancient Songjiang humanities. He was a historian at the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty, and has been living in seclusion since the death of Yuan Dynasty. Of course, the most famous are Shi, the founder of Shen Bao, a modern patriot, and Ma, a famous scholar who founded Aurora University and Fudan University.

This is because in the Ming Dynasty, the success of the confluence project of Wusong River and Huangpu River completely linked inland river transportation with maritime traffic, and Shanghai County at the mouth of Huangpu River replaced Songjiang Prefecture as the economic center.

Jiangpu confluence, from Wusongkou can go to sea. In the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1684), the Qing government opened the maritime ban, and the shipping industry based on Shanghai cotton trade developed unprecedentedly. During the Daoguang period, Shanghai has become one of the most important ports along the southeast coast of China.

From Songjiang to Sijing, from Sijing to Shanghai, the decline of Songjiang Prefecture and the rise of Shanghai City are the road extensions from inland to coastal areas.
