The 1958 Chengdu Conference

Strong earthquakes in Xingtai, Hebei in 1966

On March 8 and 22, 1966, strong earthquakes measuring 6.8 and 7.2 on the Richter scale occurred in Xingtai, Hebei. According to incomplete statistics, the affected area reached more than 100,000 square kilometers and 8,064 people died. Under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the State Council and the Central Military Commission, and with the strong support of the people of the country and the People's Liberation Army, the people in the disaster area actively carried out earthquake relief work.
