The background story of Xiaoputuo Temple

During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, there was an academician named Joe in the Sixth Regiment. His father died young and his mother Cai believed in Buddhism. At home, Guanyin Bodhisattva is worshipped. She is a vegetarian. When her son went to Beijing to take the exam, Qiao Cai asked Guanyin for his blessing. If her son passed the imperial examination, she would go to Putuo Mountain to burn incense and rebuild the golden body for the Bodhisattva.

This year, my son really won the imperial examination, and the official was Hanlin, known as the Taishi. Qiao Cai is really happy to report the good news of the imperial list to the Sixth Regiment. The court ordered his son to work in imperial academy. Because of his busy business, Beijing is far from home, so he can't come back to visit relatives for the time being. Joe Chua sent a messenger, and there was no definite return date, so she cancelled her promise to go to Putuo Mountain.

A few years later, my son came home, and his mother told the old story again. Grandmaster Qiao said, "My mother is going to Putuo Mountain to make a wish and rebuild the golden body of Guanyin. My children have always kept it in mind. However, Putuo Mountain is in the vast sea, with a long way to go, high winds and high waves at sea, and my mother is old, which makes it difficult to bear the pain of limping on the boat. " Mother asked anxiously, "I won't go to Mount Putuo. What do you think of my wish, son? " Joe Taishi went on to say, "Don't worry, mom, the child has thought of a way to kill two birds with one stone. This time he came back to discuss with his mother. " "What way? Speak quickly, son. " "The child wants to invite an architect to visit Putuo Mountain, paint the temple there as a pattern, and then come back to imitate it to build a small Putuo Temple, so that your family can shape the golden body for Guanyin Bodhisattva at home. I don't know what my mother thinks? " Joe Caiyi listened and promised again and again. However, she is still a little worried. How much money does it cost to build a temple? Master Qiao comforted his mother and said, "You don't have to worry about that."

After the news spread that Qiao's mother and son funded the construction of the temple, the surrounding villagers and Buddhist believers agreed. They think it is a good thing to do great things and accumulate great virtues. Without mobilization and call, they all raised funds automatically or volunteered to help.
