Liuyang No.1 Middle School is a prestigious Sanxiang school. The school was founded in 1929, formerly known as Liuyang Public School, and was founded by Wei, then the county magistrate. The school site is divided into the former site of Wugongling Red Cross Society in Moshi Street, Liuyang City (boys' department) and the former site of Chaijiaxiang A-level women's normal school (girls' department). In September, 1929 was renamed as "Liuyang County Junior High School" after being filed by the Provincial Department of Education.

Before liberation, during the war, the school had no fixed place and was displaced. It changed its name nine times, changed its address five times, closed down twice, and the school struggled to survive. 1949 when new China was founded, the people's government took over the school and decided to take Liuyang Confucian Temple as the fixed site. 1955 was officially renamed as "No.1 Middle School in Liuyang County, Hunan Province"; 1963 was rated as the first batch of key middle schools in Hunan province; 1996 passed the re-evaluation and acceptance of key middle schools in Hunan province;
