Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment of Rheumatism

Principles of TCM treatment of rheumatism;

1, joint pain: manifested as joint pain of limbs without fixed place and wandering. Treatment: expelling wind and dredging collaterals, dispelling cold and removing dampness.

2. Pain: The pain in the fixed part is severe, the heat pain is relieved, and the cold pain is aggravated. Treatment: dispelling cold, expelling wind and removing dampness.

3, suffering from paralysis: joint pain is heavier, the pain is fixed, the skin feels dull, and the flexion and extension are unfavorable. Treatment: eliminating dampness and dredging collaterals, expelling wind and dispelling cold.

TCM treatment based on syndrome differentiation;

(1) Gufang:

① Chaigejijie Decoction (Six Books on Epidemic Febrile Diseases): Bupleurum, Radix Puerariae, Glycyrrhrizae Radix, Scutellariae Radix, Notopterygii Rhizoma, Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, Paeonia lactiflora, Radix Platycodonis and Gypsum Fibrosum. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with aversion to cold, fever, joint pain and muscle soreness, and TCM syndrome differentiation belongs to wind-heat exterior and interior.

② Notopterygium Shi Sheng Decoction (both internal and external treatment): Notopterygium Rhizoma, Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, Rhizoma Ligustici, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata and Fructus Viticis. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with headache, heavy head, backache, aversion to cold and slight fever, which is diagnosed as rheumatism according to TCM syndrome differentiation.

③ Sanbi Decoction (female): Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Asari, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Paeoniae, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Radix Rehmanniae, Eucommiae Cortex, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, Radix Codonopsis, Poria, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Cortex Cinnamomi, Radix Astragali, Radix Dipsaci and Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis, cold pain in waist and knees, and hand and foot contracture. Syndrome differentiation of traditional Chinese medicine is wind-cold-dampness arthralgia, which belongs to liver and kidney deficiency and qi and blood deficiency.

④ Juanbi Decoction (10 1 recipe): Notopterygium Rhizoma, Curcuma Rhizome, Radix Angelicae Sinensis (soaked in wine), Radix Astragali (honey-baked), Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata and Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with joint wandering pain, especially neck, shoulder and elbow pain, which is diagnosed as wind arthralgia according to TCM syndrome differentiation.

⑤ Xu Anbi Decoction (Treatise on Febrile Diseases): Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, Fructus Forsythiae, Talcum, Coicis Semen, Rhizoma Pinelliae, Bombyx Batryticatus, Semen Phaseoli and Fructus Gardeniae. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with joint pain, unfavorable activity, aversion to cold and excess heat, and TCM syndrome differentiation is damp-heat obstruction.

⑥ Jiawei Mufangji Decoction (Treatise on Febrile Diseases): Mufangji, Gypsum Fibrosum, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Coicis Semen, Talcum, Tetramedulla Tetrapanacis and Almond. Suitable for patients with acute rheumatoid arthritis and joint swelling and pain.

⑧ Guizhi Shaoyao Mu Zhi Decoction (Synopsis of the Golden Chamber): Guizhi, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, Herba Ephedrae, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Radix Saposhnikoviae, Radix Aconiti Preparata and Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with joint cold pain, heat sensation, or joint swelling, but it is not hot to the touch and very painful when it is cold.

⑨ Taohong Drink (syndrome differentiation and treatment): peach kernel, safflower, Ligusticum chuanxiong, cinnamon and clematis. It is suitable for rheumatoid arthritis with joint pain, local pain, persistent swelling and unfavorable activity.

Indications: Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Peach Blossom, Carthami Flos and Glycyrrhizae Radix. Notopterygii Rhizoma, Myrrha, Rhizoma Cyperi, Oletum Trogopterori, Achyranthis Radix, Lumbricus and Radix Angelicae Sinensis. It is suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis pain such as acupuncture, blue skin, red tongue and astringent pulse.

Empirical formula 1: Hua Shuang, Taraxacum mongolicum, Gypsum Fibrosum, Radix Gentianae, Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae, Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati, Radix Rehmanniae, Akebiae, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Semen Persicae, Periostracum Cicadae, Hirudo preparata, Mume Fructus, Glycyrrhrizae Radix, tender Ramulus Mori or fresh Rhizoma Phragmitis. It is suitable for patients with acute rheumatic joint swelling and pain, aversion to cold and fever, and erythema of skin nodules. Cortex Phellodendri, Rhizoma Polygonati, Carapax Trionycis, Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, Fructus Chaenomelis, Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, Luffa, Radix Clematidis, Herba Artemisiae Annuae, Caulis Lonicerae, Caulis Spatholobi, Caulis Polygoni Multiflori, Lumbricus, Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, tender ramulus Mori or fresh Rhizoma Phragmitis. It is suitable for patients with acute rheumatic fever, high fever and joint swelling, but still low fever, dry mouth and joint pain. Radix Astragali, Rhizoma Polygonati, Caulis Spatholobi, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Herba Artemisiae Annuae, Rhizoma homalomenae, Colla Plastri Testudinis, Lumbricus, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Fructus Amomi Rotundus, Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli, Eupolyphaga Seu Steleophaga, Fructus Lycii, Longan, Jasmine and Prunella vulgaris. Suitable for acute rheumatic fever recovery period.

Experience 2: Radix Saposhnikoviae, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Notopterygii Rhizoma, Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, Atractylodis Rhizoma, Coicis Semen, Asari and Radix Astragali. It is suitable for chronic rheumatic arthritis with wind-cold-dampness arthralgia.

Experience Formula 3: Ramulus Cinnamomi, Caulis Spatholobi, Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Preparata, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Astragali, Radix Saposhnikoviae and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata. Treatment of chronic rheumatoid arthritis, based on this prescription, according to the severity of wind-cold-dampness evil and the location of joint pain.

Experience Formula 4: Coicis Semen, Achyranthes bidentata, Rhizoma Atractylodis, Fructus Chaenomelis, Rhizoma Cyperi, Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Olibanum, Myrrha, Semen Persicae, Flos Carthami, Lumbricus, Ramulus Cinnamomi, Caulis Perillae, Radix Linderae, Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Glycyrrhizae. Boil the wine in water and then take it. Can be used for treating arthralgia of rheumatoid arthritis.

Fumigation therapy:

Fumigation and washing therapy is to decoct traditional Chinese medicine, and then fumigate or soak the affected area with heat, so that the medicinal properties of the medicine can reach the affected area directly from the pores. It has the functions of expelling wind and cold, relaxing muscles and tendons and activating collaterals. Mainly used for treating wind-cold-dampness arthralgia.
