Introduction to Tianwang Temple

The Tianwang Temple, also known as the Sanhou Temple and the Sanwang Temple, is located at the foot of the Scenic Mountain in the southeast of Fenghuang Ancient City. Visitors can climb up to the temple from the east gate well and follow the hundreds of stone steps. "This is a group of ancient buildings with exquisite craftsmanship. It is said that they were used to worship "Thirty-six people and nine thousand Miao people were killed". They served the imperial court and brutally suppressed the Miao brothers. They were made marquises by the emperor and finally poisoned by the imperial court. The Tianwang Temple was built by the three brothers Yang Yinglong, Yang Yinghu and Yang Yingbao, the eighth descendant of Yang Ye in the Song Dynasty. It is not only a model of national ancient architecture, but also a memorial site for the Revolution of 1911. From 1910 to 1911, Fenghuang Miao patriots Tang Lichen and Tian Yingquan and others established the new national revolutionary regime here, the Xiangxi Military Government, and held celebrations in the Tianwang Temple. The slogans of the Xinhai Revolution Uprising Army are still preserved in the Tianwang Temple.
