The terrain of Xiamen slopes from northwest to southeast, and the terrain consists of various types, including middle mountains, low mountains, high hills, low hills, terraces, plains, tidal flats, etc. There are many medium and low mountains in the northwest. Among them, Yunding Mountain, located at the junction of Tong'an and Anxi, has an altitude of 1175.2 meters, making it the highest mountain in the city. Many foreign tourists do not understand the topography and water flow characteristics here. Every year, at least 2-3 drowning deaths occur here. In September 2010, a freshman from Xiamen University drowned here while trying to save others. Previously, there was a placard "No swimming allowed in strong tides" on the top of a large reef, but it was destroyed by wind and waves when Typhoon Catfish came on October 23, 2010.

Baicheng Beach is one of the favorite bathing beaches of Xiamen citizens. In summer, there are hundreds to thousands of people playing and swimming on the beach.
