What disease is varicose veins?

Varicose veins refer to the tortuous, dilated and thickened veins on the body surface or internal organs under physiological and pathological conditions. Varicose veins of lower limbs, varicocele and esophageal and gastric varices are common in clinic, but most of them refer to varicose veins of lower limbs. At present, the etiology is not clear, which can be divided into primary, secondary and congenital varicose veins of lower limbs. Primary varicose veins of lower limbs are mostly caused by valve insufficiency at the junction of great saphenous vein and femoral vein, which leads to deep vein blood reflux and tortuous vein expansion. Secondary varicose veins of lower limbs, mostly due to deep venous thrombosis damage, block the venous valves of lower limbs, resulting in blocked blood return, causing venous hypertension, tortuosity and dilatation. Congenital varicose veins of lower limbs are mostly caused by venous malformations, and excessive arterial blood flows into veins, leading to venous hypertension and varicose veins.
