He was the traffic officer of Jiang Jie Jiang Zhuyun. His wrists were strangled and his bones were broken. He was killed by the agents and buried to grow vegetables.

On November 27, 70 years ago, the artillery fire of the Communist Party could be heard across the river, and the dawn of victory was about to come. However, Zhazidong and Baigongguan in Geleshan, Chongqing, were in flames in the rain, and shouts continued. More than 300 revolutionary patriots who had been imprisoned here died before the dawn came.

Among the martyrs who died, one was deliberately concealed by the secret agents, silently revealing the importance of his identity. He was Li Chenglin, who was the deputy manager of Wanxian Branch of Hecheng Bank at the time, and his other identity was Jiang Jie Jiang Zhujun's traffic officer.

Recently, Mr. Li Xianqun, the youngest son of martyr Li Chenglin, accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from Chongqing Youth Daily and reviewed the red past with us.

Resolutely joined the party and inherited his destiny for the country

In 1912, Li Chenglin was born in a declining merchant in Jiangxi. His father came to Chongqing to do business in his early years and died when Li Chenglin was 12 years old.

With his intelligence and hard work, Li Chenglin was admitted to Hecheng Bank as a trainee at the age of 26. After receiving his internship salary for the first time, Li Chenglin immediately bought a basket of eggs for his family that he was usually reluctant to buy.

At that time, he did not know that he would encounter an even greater turning point in his fate here.

Zeng Qiongying, who was admitted to Hecheng Bank a year later, continuously led the youth of Hecheng Bank to actively participate in the "Bank Employees' Retired Industry Association", "Youth Association", "China-Soviet Cultural Association" and other progressive groups Rescue activities. At that time, Li Chenglin, who had seen through the Communist Party's corrupt regime, gradually accepted the Communist Party's progressive ideas. In the second half of 1939, Li Chenglin joined the Chinese Communist Party under the guidance and introduction of Zeng Qiongying and other party members.

Li Chenglin later learned that in 1938, Zeng Qiongying had joined the Communist Party of China and became a member of the "Chongqing National Salvation Association."

*** After the Central Southern Bureau agreed to the establishment of a branch of Hecheng Bank, the "Bank Special Branch", in order to keep close contact with the Southern Bureau, promptly received instructions from the party and decided to appoint Zeng Qiongying as a secret traffic officer, responsible for the southern branch. Communication and transportation work between the bureau and the adjacent water line.

In January 1941, the "Southern Anhui Incident" broke out, which shocked both China and the world. Underground party members and revolutionary patriots were arrested one after another in the Kuomintang-controlled areas. According to the instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to "hide capable personnel, accumulate strength, and lie in wait for the opportunity for a long time," the "Bank Special Branch" was disbanded.

Because Li Chenglin had been exposed during the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement, he had long been targeted by Communist agents and had to be transferred. After arrangements by the party organization, he was transferred to the Ya'an (branch) office of Hecheng Bank as an accountant, and Zeng Qiongying was subsequently transferred to Ya'an. The two formed a deep friendship during the long-term revolutionary struggle, and soon became partners.

According to the instructions of the Sichuan-Kang Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, Li Chenglin is in charge of the Ya'an Party organization, mainly implementing the hidden policies of the Party Central Committee and the Southern Bureau, and at the same time, helping comrades who have transferred to Ya'an find careers. In order to further gain a foothold, Li Chenglin asked everyone to focus on colleagues in the unit and unite all those who can be united. At the same time, they should improve their business work capabilities and consolidate their professional status.

During the Anti-Japanese War, the country was in crisis, the family was poor, and life was difficult. In order to raise funds for underground activities and relocate comrades, Li Chenglin's lung disease, which he had suffered from malnutrition since childhood, relapsed. However, he did not have time to recuperate and spent all day outside. He was busy raising funds for party affairs, but his family was often stretched thin. Seeing that the children were dressed in rags, Zeng Qiongying felt unhappy and asked Li Chenglin to buy some clothes for the children, but he did not agree. Later, out of need of disguise, Li Chenglin sewed a set of woolen coats for each of the three children.

"When we finally buried my father's body, the three of us brothers wore the same woolen coats." This is the lasting memory that Li Chenglin left for his children before his death.

A battlefield without artillery fire

*** The Central Southern Bureau has always been highly disciplined and adheres to vertical and one-way communication. In 1943, a Ya'an traffic officer accidentally fell into the Yahe River and died. Li Chenglin Lost contact with the party organization.

Li Chenglin and Zeng Qiongying returned to Chongqing from Ya'an in order to find an organization. However, the Chongqing party organization did not know about their situation, and for safety reasons, they did not restore their organizational relationship.

In August 1945, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Li Chenglin and Zeng Qiongying were transferred to Wanxian Hecheng Bank when they still could not get in touch with the organization. They insisted on raising funds and waited for the organization to contact them.

In Wanxian, Li Chenglin partnered with Zhao Jingbo, the manager of Wanxian Hecheng Bank, to do business. After making money, Li Chenglin discussed with Zeng Qiongying and exchanged it with Chen Weizhijia, who was also a party member of Baoguang Bricks, hoping that once Once the organizational relationship is restored, it will be paid as party dues.

In July 1947, the "Jinjin Daily", the official newspaper of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee of the underground party, came out. After hearing the news, Li Chenglin and Zeng Qiongying were extremely excited. They were like stray lambs, longing to return to the revolutionary family day and night. After contact and verification, Comrade Peng Yongwu, member of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, restored the organizational relationship between the two and arranged for Li Chenglin to be the traffic officer between Wanxian and Chongqing, responsible for delivering intelligence and escorting personnel, providing financial security, and providing Hecheng Bank Wanxian Branch as an underground Party secret liaison station.

After the couple restored their organizational relationship, they immediately handed over the years of savings stored in Chen Weizhi’s possessions to the party organization as party dues. After learning that Peng Yongwu planned to publish the Sichuan East Edition of "Advance Daily" in the Lower Sichuan East guerrilla base area and urgently needed a radio to listen to news from Yan'an, Li Chenglin immediately entrusted his colleagues at the Shanghai Hecheng Bank branch to buy an American "Qiu" brand radio.

Since taking on the task of covering traffic between Chongqing and Wanxian for the underground party, he has become a traffic officer responsible only to Sister Jiang.

The task of delivering intelligence became more serious as the smoke of civil war spread.

Once, after Jiang Zhujun hurriedly finished all the matters in Chongqing, he immediately rushed back to Wanxian County. When we disembarked in Wanxian, we saw many sentries standing beside the dock. The enemy's military police Xiante had already heard the news and was here to closely inspect the foreign passengers. At this time, I saw a middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes walking out of the crowd of people picking up guests. He nodded to Sister Jiang and said, "Cousin! I'm late to greet you. I apologize for being late!" While winking, he said As a secret signal, he reached out to take the small suitcase carried by the other party, and followed each other towards the shore. This guest is Li Chenglin. As the deputy manager of Wanxian Hecheng Bank, he is one of the leading figures in local society.

Walking to the inspection post, Li Chenglin took a step forward, took the initiative to establish a relationship with the officer leading the team, and said: "Thank you for your hard work! I am from Hecheng Bank, and I am here to pick up my wife. Just bring some clothes with me." , please take a look." As he said this, he handed over the cigarette and put a gold bar into the other person's hand. Then he squatted down as if opening the box. The officer knew that Li was the well-known manager of Hecheng Bank and got another benefit. Then he smiled and said: "He is a relative of Manager Li. He has no background. Please go uphill and be exempted from inspection."

Party In this way, confidential documents were passed on again and again without any danger.

Two drops of cod liver oil

"The police station wants to talk to me." This was the last message Li Chenglin left to his wife.

On June 14, 1948, due to the betrayal of the traitors, Li Chenglin and Jiang Zhujun were arrested successively. On June 17, they were escorted to Room 5 of the Zhazidong Detention Center.

After realizing that her husband was arrested, Zeng Qiongying gradually calmed down. She knew that she had the responsibility to deal with the matters left behind by her husband. She immediately took out the confidential documents from the safe and the progressive collection of papers under the blanket, stuffed them into the stove fire and burned them. Afterwards, he and his colleagues from Chongqing Hecheng Bank launched a rescue operation for Li Chenglin through various channels.

Wu Jinhang, the manager of Hecheng Bank, was originally a policeman and had connections with the police station. After he learned about Li Chenglin and his wife, he paid 10 taels of gold to clear the way and release Li Chenglin and his wife. However, the secret agents believed that Li Chenglin's case was serious and insisted not to release him, but promised not to impose a sentence.

However, the environment in Zhazi Cave is very harsh. The food eaten is "three kinds of rice" (a lot of tares, a lot of sand, and a lot of chaff). The food that goes with the rice is boiled side dishes in white water, or a few beans, which is extremely Lack of nutrition; the sleeping area was one and a half feet wide, and he only had ten minutes of free time a day. Not long after he was imprisoned, the tuberculosis that Li Chenglin had suffered from recurred and kept getting worse. He often coughed up blood.

When Zeng Qiongying learned that Li Chenglin's lung disease had recurred, she pooled her money to buy two bottles of cod liver oil and asked someone to take them to Zhazidong Prison.

Cod liver oil was a valuable medicine at that time, and the dosage was measured in drops. It had a nourishing effect on the weak, especially those with lung disease. But Li Chenglin was reluctant to eat them. He gave these nutritional supplements to Zuo Shaoying and Peng Canbi, who were in the women's prison. Their two children born in prison were also in desperate need of nutrition.

Considering that Li Chenglin was seriously ill with lung disease, the inmates in the women's prison returned several bottles of cod liver oil.

Li Chenglin's cell held six prisoners. He proposed that the cod liver oil should be shared among everyone, but other comrades were unwilling. At that time, two comrades were very weak due to excessive torture, especially Yang Yushang, a member of the Xiachuandong District Committee. After being arrested, they suffered torture such as the tiger bench, hammers smashing bare bones, and red-hot wire cannons to burn the soles of their feet. . After being imprisoned, he was often bedridden.

Li Chenglin then gave the cod liver oil to these two comrades, but they did not agree. The cod liver oil was transferred around and returned to Li Chenglin's hands.

After repeated disputes, it was finally agreed that Li Chenglin and the two comrades would eat it together, and Li Chenglin would control it and distribute it equally. A few days later, the fellow prisoners discovered Li Chenglin's secret. It turned out that the two comrades were being given six drops each time with a dropper, but he himself was always missing two drops.

"The Red Rock Spirit is a belief"

On November 30, 1949, Chongqing was liberated, but Li Chenglin rested on Gele Mountain.

His handcuffed wrist was strangled to pieces, with white bones exposed, and there were five gunshot holes soaked in blood on his back - this was the scene when Zeng Qiongying saw her husband again. Because Li Chenglin had a high social status, the agents killed him and buried him specially, and planted vegetables. Luo Guangbin organized the comrades who had escaped from prison to search everywhere, and finally found Li Chenglin's body opposite the Dai Gong Temple.

"I admire those intellectuals very much. They are the ones who really remember their original intentions and have no selfish interests." Li Xianqun, the youngest son of martyr Li Chenglin, told the reporter of Chongqing Youth Daily that he was only three years old when his father died. When I was in junior high school, I read my mother's diary and finally understood what my father's sacrifice was for.

In order to inherit the revolutionary legacy of his parents and publicize and carry forward the Hongyan spirit, Li Xianqun and other family members of the martyrs established the Chongqing Hongyan Martyrs Historical Materials Research Association. The main task is to publicize and go to various schools to talk to teachers and classmates. Tell the story of the heroes and martyrs of Hongyan, tell the spirit of Hongyan, educate them on revolutionary traditions, in the hope that they can inherit the legacy of their fathers, rectify the names of the martyrs who died on the transportation line, and help the families of the martyrs.

Li Xianqun said: "The Hongyan spirit is a belief. Even if life is poor, it still has the world in mind. It is not for fame or profit, it is just to realize communism. This is the founding of New China. Foundation. ”

As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, we must look forward to the future without forgetting the past. Li Chenglin ushered in the birth of New China with their blood and wrote heroic poems with their precious lives. Young people living in a prosperous age must shoulder the responsibilities of their own times and be worthy of their heroic souls.
