Why is sugar cane not sweet at both ends?

Because sugar cane is constantly consuming nutrients during its growth. Small sugar cane is not sweet from top to bottom. After growing up, on the one hand, the sugar produced increases, on the other hand, the nutrients consumed decrease, and the excess sugar is stored in the lower part of sugarcane. Therefore, the lower segment of mature sugarcane is sweeter than the upper segment. In addition, because the photosynthesis of sugarcane leaves needs a lot of water, most of the water in sugarcane itself is near the leaves, but less in the roots, so the sugar concentration in the roots is higher, and the lower part of sugarcane is sweeter than the upper part.

This is why sugarcane can't be sweet at both ends.
