Can I get a refund if I surrender the urban and rural medical insurance?

Refunds are not available for urban and rural medical insurance surrenders.

Under normal circumstances, once the payment is successful, you cannot apply for a refund. However, if any of the following situations occur, the cost of urban and rural residents’ medical insurance can be refunded: when the household registration is cancelled, the insured person dies, the insured person immigrates, etc., the urban and rural residents’ medical insurance can be withdrawn.

The process of surrendering urban and rural residents’ medical insurance:

1. The insured person applies to the Urban and Rural Residents Medical Insurance Management Center;

2. Submit relevant application materials ;

3. Fill out the "Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance Surrender Application Form";

4. The staff will review the relevant information of the insured and review the eligibility for surrender, and meet the conditions. To cancel the medical insurance, a "Urban Residents Basic Medical Insurance Refund Notice" will be issued;

5. The applicant should go to the Financial Office of the Urban and Rural Residents Medical Insurance Management Center to handle the medical insurance refund with the "Refund Notice".

Materials needed to apply for urban and rural residents’ medical insurance:

1. Two recent 2-inch color photos of the insured person without a hat. If the insured person is a preschool child, provide mother and son or father and son. Two recent 2-inch color photos without hats;

2. The original ID card and the original household registration book of the insured person, and two copies. Each page of the household registration book must be copied;

3. Originals and two copies of relevant materials such as valid certificates of medical insurance participation of other family members in the household registration booklet except for the insured person; for example, if family members have provincial or municipal medical insurance books, you only need Just bring the original copy of the medical insurance booklet and copy the first page of the medical insurance booklet;

4. To sum up, urban residents’ medical insurance is a medical insurance system that mainly covers urban minors and unemployed residents who have not participated in urban employee medical insurance. People who participate in medical insurance should go to local medical insurance designated hospitals for medical treatment. Urban residents’ medical insurance cards cannot be used in any hospital.
