The key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education refers to the 15 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences (scientific research institutes) established by the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) in 66 universities nationwide since 1999. More than 50% key research bases have become the core and support of the "985 Project" national innovation platform for philosophy and social sciences.

The so-called "first-class" means that the key research bases required to be established should be national first-class, or at least first-class in the same research field of national universities, and it is expected to reach the first-class level in the same research field after several years of construction. The so-called "unique" means that there is only one key research base in the same field and the same research direction, and the required key research base has become the center of this research field and is obviously in the leading position in the prosperity and development of humanities and social sciences in China. After 10 years of construction and development, it can be said that more than two-thirds of the bases have achieved this construction goal, which can be called the academic peak, talent highland and exchange window in this field.
