How to send text messages between PHS and mobile phone:

PHS → Enter the mobile phone number directly on the mobile phone (add 0 in front of the mobile phone from other places).

After SMS interoperability, the current rates for sending SMS messages to external networks among the three parties will remain unchanged. The rate for PHS to send SMS messages to internal and external networks is 0.08 yuan/piece. The standard rate for mobile phones to send text messages to PHS is 0.15 yuan/text, while China Unicom is expected to charge 0.1 yuan/text.

The provinces and cities where text messages can now be sent to each other are:

Beijing: On December 28, some PHS users in Beijing can send text messages to and from China Mobile phones. Unstable, often receiving delays. Currently, PHS in the Beijing area cannot send text messages to and from mobile phones in other places, and it is temporarily unable to send text messages to China Unicom. It is expected that full interoperability will be achieved by early January 2005.

Guangdong: Starting from December 20, Guangdong Telecom and Guangdong Mobile have begun testing text message interoperability. PHS users and mobile phone users in the province can now send text messages to each other. However, the system is currently unstable, and the success rate of sending text messages to each other is not high.

Among the ten northern provinces and cities under the jurisdiction of China Netcom, Hebei and Jilin have already started trial operation, while other provinces and cities are still under negotiation.

Shanghai mobile phones have been trialing SMS interoperability with China Telecom PHS since October 10, and the results are good, with a success rate of sending and receiving over 95%.

Jiangsu has entered the trial operation stage.

Liaoning Province’s PHS and mobile phone users will realize text message interoperability from December 27.

All PHS and mobile phones in Fujian Province can communicate with each other via text messages.

Sichuan SMS Internet is currently in the trial operation stage, and the official operation time has not yet been determined.
