Which is safer, Google account authenticator application or SMS two-step verification?
How to Enable "Two-step Verification" of Google Account The so-called two-step verification means that when logging into Google account, you are required to enter a dynamic password sent to you by Google through your mobile phone, which undoubtedly adds an extra layer of protection and security to your Google account. In other words, even if a possible intruder steals or guesses your password, he can't log into the account because he can't use your mobile phone. Since the account is safe, what are you waiting for? Quickly enable "two-step verification"! Here is a brief introduction to my own operation process, which is very good for your reference. 1. Log in to your Google account and click "Use two-step authentication" in the security bar. Click Set Two-Step Verification in the figure below: 2. There are two ways to set up verification, one is fixed line or mobile phone verification; The other is the smartphone application: If you are using Android, BlackBerry or iPhone, you can choose to use the authentication method of the smartphone application, but you need to install one more application. Here I choose to use fixed-line or mobile phone authentication, that is, SMS authentication. As shown in the above picture, fill in your mobile phone number. If there is one, a tick will be displayed next to it. In addition to SMS, you can also choose to use automatic voice message to receive the verification code. I will follow the default SMS mode. Click send code to start the test. If all goes well, you will receive Google's verification code. After entering the obtained verification code, click OK. If the verification code is correct, you will be prompted that the phone number has been configured. Enter the next step, and you will see the following interface: Continue to the next step. 3. Add an alternate verification method. At this point, Google will provide you with a backup verification code of 10, which is the only way to log in to your account if your mobile phone is lost or unavailable. This backup verification code is very important, so be sure to leave a copy: in addition to the backup verification code, Google will also ask us to add a backup mobile phone number, which can be a landline phone or your friend's mobile phone number. The settings are the same as in the second step above, but testing the mobile phone becomes optional: continue to the next step, as shown below: this step is confirmation. Because some applications that need to log in to Google account can't be used by receiving verification code, they need to create application-specific passwords for them separately, so you can leave it alone for the time being (you can set it in your account at any time in the future) and go directly to the next step. 4. Turn on two-step verification. This is the last step. Click to open two-step verification directly, and then a prompt box will appear. Press the OK button. At this point, your Google account has completed the two-step verification setup process. In the future, if you want to log in to the account, you must enter the original user name and password, as well as the verification code received through your mobile phone. You may find it a little troublesome, but I think it's worth it. Safety comes first. Finally, if you think it is really troublesome to enable two-step verification, don't worry. Google allows you to turn off this feature, log in to your account, and then click Use Two-Step Authentication. After entering, you can disable two-step verification if there is a setting.
