The combination of hot steam and cold air on the water vapor-rich sea surface will condense into snowflakes and form snowfall. Meteorologically, this kind of snowfall is called "cold current snowfall". The formation of this snowfall requires special conditions. Because there is no warm and humid air near the surface of the peninsula, such as Laiyang in Jiaodong, even if it encounters cold air from the north, it will not form snowfall.

Why does Jiaodong have the most snowfall this year?

According to relevant data, when the altitude temperature above the ground 1500m is lower than 12 degrees Celsius, it is easy to form snowfall. According to the meteorological department of Yantai, the temperature above 1500m in Jiaodong Peninsula is around 18 degrees Celsius, which is suitable for snowfall.

Li Gang introduced that the special terrain of Jiaodong Peninsula also played a certain role in the formation of cold current snowfall. The uplift of coastal hills and mountains in the northern part of the peninsula is the trigger condition for the formation of low cloud areas. Yantai and Weihai are just to the north of the mountain. When the northwest wind blows, the warm air near the sea surface climbs along the hills, which will also increase the snowfall. Therefore, this kind of cold current snowfall is often the largest along the northern coast of Yantai and Weihai.
